Seven years of R&M. Here’s where we are.
We’ve been a Riese & Müller dealer since 2018, and we ride them ourselves. This year R&M stopped taking US dealer orders, so once the bikes below are gone, we won’t have new R&M to sell.
We’re not going to pretend that’s nothing. R&M builds some of the best ebikes in the world. But we’ve spent seven years fitting people onto them, and we know exactly what each one does well. Below is what we’d hand you instead, model by model, from the brands we do carry: Tern, Gazelle and Urban Arrow. All Bosch, all ride-before-you-buy, all serviced right here.

Looking at a Tinker or Tinker2?
Compact commuter, 20-inch wheelsThe Tinker is a compact, 20-inch-wheel commuter with big-bike geometry. The closest thing in the shop is the Tern Vektron. Same idea, one size fits most of a household, and the Vektron folds in half, which the Tinker never did. If you want a compact that’s more upright and easier to step over, look at the Tern NBD.
Looking at a Multitinker or Multitinker2?
Compact cargoThis is the one where Tern has come straight at R&M. The Gen 3 HSD S9i Sport is a compact cargo bike with the Bosch Performance Line Sport motor, a 9-speed internal hub shifted electronically by Bosch eShift, and a Gates belt. That was R&M’s formula. It’s rated to 419 lbs total, folds down to fit in a hallway, and costs about $1,400 less than a Multitinker2. If you don’t need the belt and eShift, the HSD P10e Sport has the same motor with a derailleur.
Looking at a Multicharger or Multicharger Mixte?
Longtail, two kids or a lot of groceriesThat’s the Tern GSD. The GSD S10 is the everyday spec. The GSD R14 is the one to cross-shop against a Multicharger with the Rohloff option: Rohloff E-14 hub, Gates belt, Bosch Cargo Line. It carries more than the Multicharger (up to 463 lbs) and it’s shorter, so it fits where a Multicharger doesn’t.
Looking at a Nevo, Nevo4 or Nevo5?
Full-size step-through, long comfortable milesEasy. The Gazelle Eclipse. Same recipe: full-size step-through, Bosch Performance Line, suspension fork, integrated everything, built for long comfortable miles. The Eclipse C380+ has the Enviolo stepless hub and belt, which is the Nevo Vario setup. The Eclipse T11+ is the chain version. Either one is a couple thousand dollars less than a Nevo5 and, in our experience, the bike Nevo shoppers end up happiest on.
Looking at a Charger, Charger Mixte or Roadster?
Fast, upright commuterFast, upright commuter with a Bosch motor. The Gazelle Ultimate is the closest fit: Ultimate C380+ with the Enviolo hub and belt, Ultimate T11+ or T10 with a chain. If you want to step up in comfort, the Eclipse above is the Charger GT equivalent. If the Charger appealed to you because of the speed, ask us about the new Class 3 Ultimate. And if you wanted the Roadster specifically, we still have three, up top.
Looking at a Load 60, Load 75 or Packster?
Front-loading box bike for kidsUrban Arrow invented this category and still makes the best one. The Urban Arrow Family (Bosch Smart System) is the direct answer to the Load 60 and the Packster 70. The FamilyNext Pro adds the newer frame and components. If you were set on the Load specifically for full suspension, the Urban Arrow doesn’t have it, but it does have a lower floor, a lighter box and a much lower price. Most families who ride both pick the Arrow.
Looking at a Carrie or Carrie2?
Compact front-loaderStraight answer: nobody else makes a small front-loader like the Carrie, and we’re not going to hand you a full-size box bike and call it the same thing. What we’d put you on is a Tern HSD. Set up with the right accessories (child seat, Clubhouse rails, front rack, panniers) it carries just about as much as a Carrie, and it gives you the sporty ride: 20-inch wheels, low center of gravity, Bosch Performance Line Sport on the Gen 3. It also folds and parks standing up, which the Carrie never did. Come in and we’ll build one out the way you’d use it.
Looking at a Homage, Delite or Superdelite?
Full-suspension touring, dual batteryHere’s the gap, and we’re not going to paper over it. These are full-suspension touring bikes with dual batteries and nothing we carry is that. If full suspension is the point, we don’t have your bike. If what you actually wanted was the ride quality, the range and the finish, the Gazelle Eclipse C380+ gets you a long way there for about half the price, and it’ll still be under warranty at the shop that sold it to you. Come ride one before you decide.
Looking at a Culture?
Straightforward city bikeThe Culture is R&M’s straightforward city bike, and we still have four of them, up top. Once those go: the Gazelle Arroyo C8 Elite or C5 Elite does that job, and the Medeo T9 City does it for a lot less.
Worth saying plainly, because a lot of R&M shoppers haven’t looked at Tern in a few years. The Gen 3 HSD Sport line runs the Bosch Performance Line Sport motor on the Smart System, with a Kiox 300 display, GPS tracking and an alarm through the ConnectModule. The S9i Sport adds an internal hub with electronic eShift and a Gates belt. The GSD R14 and Orox R14 run Rohloff E-14 hubs.
That’s the belt-and-hub, no-maintenance, premium-Bosch build that used to mean R&M or nothing. It doesn’t now, and Tern’s cargo bikes fold and fit places an R&M never will.
Still riding an R&M? We still service it
Nothing changes here. We’ve worked on R&M bikes since 2018 and we have the Bosch DiagnosticTool 3, the official dealer tool, for every generation of Bosch system including Smart System and ABS. Rohloff, Enviolo, dual battery, GX options, we’ve seen all of it.
Labor is $120 an hour. A Bosch diagnostic is $120 and gets credited toward the repair.
