28 mph, and it still looks like a normal bike
Bosch Performance Line Sport, 85 Nm, assist to 28 mph. It is a Class 3 bike wearing fenders, a rack, a chaincase-free belt and full lighting. Nothing about it announces itself. It just gets you across Providence faster than the car next to you on Hope Street.
This is Bosch’s newest mid-drive and it runs on the Smart System, so you get the app, over the air updates, eBike Lock and the rest of it.
No chain, no gears to count
The rear hub is an Enviolo Trekking, which is stepless. There is no first gear or seventh gear. You twist the grip and the ratio moves, and it moves while you are stopped. At a light at the bottom of a hill you can dial it easy before you pedal, which a derailleur will not do.
Driving it is a Gates CDX carbon belt. No oil, no black stripe on your right calf, no chain to stretch. Belts are quieter than people expect and they last years, not seasons.
What’s on it
Bosch Performance Line Sport, 85 Nm, Bosch Smart System with the Purion 200 color display. 540 Wh in-tube battery. Enviolo Trekking stepless hub with a Gates CDX belt. Shimano MT420 four piston hydraulic discs, 180 mm front and 160 mm rear. SR Suntour Mobie 34 air fork with 80 mm of travel and a lockout. Suspension seatpost. 28 inch wheels on Schwalbe The Green Marathon tires. MIK HD rear rack rated to 59 lb. Integrated Axa lock. 59.5 lb without the battery. Low-step and high-step frames in S, M and L.
How it sits next to the other Ultimates
The Ultimate T11+ is $500 less and gives you the same motor, battery, fork and seatpost with an 11-speed chain drivetrain instead of the belt and hub. If you do not mind maintaining a drivetrain, take the $500.
The Ultimate T10 costs more than either and tops out at 20 mph. It buys you a bigger battery and a lighter bike, not more speed.
If you want the same idea with a much bigger battery, that is the Eclipse C380+ at $6,399.
