100 Nm, and a hub built to take it

The FamilyNext Pro runs the Gen 5 Bosch Cargo Line on the Smart System at 100 Nm. That is fifteen more than the Cargo Line on the Family Cargo and fifteen more than the Breeze.

The part that matters more than the number: Urban Arrow put an Enviolo Extreme hub on it rather than the Heavy Duty used everywhere else in the range. The Extreme exists to handle that torque. You do not put 100 Nm through a hub rated for less and hope, and it is a good sign about how the rest of the bike was specced.

Stepless, on a Gates carbon belt, so it still shifts while you are stopped with three kids in the box, and there is still nothing to oil.

What the extra thousand buys over the Family Cargo

A suspension fork. The Family Cargo is rigid up front and the FamilyNext Pro gets a Suntour Mobie34 with 60 mm of travel on the 20 inch front wheel. On Providence pavement, with a loaded box, that is the single biggest change to how the bike feels.

Bigger brakes, Magura CMe hydraulic discs with a 203 mm rotor out back. A redesigned box with a lower entry step so a four year old can climb in without you lifting them, a higher backrest, two adjustable three point belts, and integrated lighting as standard.

Then 100 Nm and the Extreme hub on top of it.

When to buy the Family Cargo instead

If your route is flat and reasonably smooth and you are carrying one or two kids, the Family Cargo at $7,999 carries the same load on a design with more than a decade behind it. The suspension and the extra torque are real, but they are answers to hills, rough pavement and heavy loads. If you do not have those, put the thousand into a second battery or a serious lock.

Ride one on Brook Street

We are at 181 Brook St in Providence, Wednesday through Saturday. Walk in and ride it, and put the kids in the box while you do. Every bike we sell qualifies for the Rhode Island e-bike rebate, which is $350 for most buyers and up to $750 if you income qualify.

The FamilyNext Pro features a large cargo box located at the front of the bike, providing ample space for transporting children, groceries, or other cargo.
