Why the S10
The folder that is actually a bike
Bosch Performance Line, 65 Nm, 300% assist, on a Shimano Deore 10 speed. That is a real drivetrain and a real motor in a bike that folds in about ten seconds and stands up on its back end in a closet.
It is 48.7 lb, which is heavy to carry up stairs and light for an e-bike. The 20 inch wheels and Big Apple tires make it feel planted rather than twitchy, which is not true of every folder.
What it is not
It is not a cargo bike. Gross vehicle weight is 276 lb and the rear rack takes 60 lb. That is a commuter with a rack, not a school run bike. If you need to carry a kid, you want an HSD, and we will tell you that in the shop rather than let you find out.
Single 400 Wh battery, no second bay, and it runs Bosch System 2 with the Purion display. No app, no alarm, no tracking.
Against the Q9 and the Gen 4
The Vektron Q9 is $300 less with a smaller motor and a 9 speed. The Gen 4 P10 is $150 more on the newer frame with the same motor and the same 10 speed. The Gen 4 P5i is $550 more and trades the chain for a Gates belt and a sealed 5 speed hub.
Four folders, four prices, and the honest answer depends on whether you care about maintenance or about the newest frame. Ride two of them here and it sorts itself out quickly.
