Why the Q9
The cheapest way into a Tern folder
Bosch Active Line Plus, 50 Nm, 270% assist, on a Shimano Alivio 9 speed. Folds in about ten seconds, stands up on its back end, and fits riders from 4’10” to 6’5″ without a wrench.
Active Line Plus is the quiet one. It is nearly silent and it has almost no drag when you ride it unpowered, which on a folding bike you will do more than you expect. It is also 50 Nm rather than 65, so it is the one to think twice about if your commute has a real hill in it.
What it is not
It is not a cargo bike. 276 lb gross vehicle weight and a 60 lb rear rack. That is a commuter with a rack. If you need to carry a kid, you want an HSD.

The $300 question
The Vektron S10 is $3,549 against $3,249 here, and it buys you Performance Line at 65 Nm and a 10 speed Deore instead of the 9 speed Alivio. Everything else is the same bike.
On flat ground, in traffic, on a short ride, you will not miss the 15 Nm and the Q9 is the smarter buy. In this city, on College Hill or anything like it, with a bag on the rack, you will. Ride the Q9 first. If it gets up the hill you were worried about, save the $300.
