Why the P10
The cheapest way into a GSD
The P10 is where the GSD line starts, and for a lot of families it is also where it should end. Same 85 Nm and 400% assist as the $10,999 R14, and the identical Bosch System 2 drive unit as the $5,999 P00. You are not buying a smaller motor by starting here. Same 463 lb gross vehicle weight. Same 220 lb rear rack. Two kids, a week of groceries, and a Providence hill.
The part Tern doesn’t put on the label
The P10 and P00 run Bosch System 2 with the Purion display. The S10 and R14 run the Bosch Smart System. That is not a small difference and it is most of what you are paying for further up the range.
System 2 is the simple one. A button and a row of LEDs. No app, no pairing, no account, no subscription, no phone involved. Plenty of people want exactly that, and we are not going to talk you out of it.
What you do not get: eBike Alarm and GPS tracking, the phone as digital key, over the air updates, Hill Hold when you stop on a grade, and ABS, which Bosch only builds for the Smart System. Batteries and chargers also do not swap between the two platforms, and System 2 is the older of the two.
It takes a second battery, same as the expensive ones
Every GSD ships dual battery ready, and that includes this one. Add a second 500 Wh pack and it roughly doubles your day. Range is the one thing on this bike you can buy later, which is a good reason not to buy your way up the range for it now.
What’s on it
Shimano Deore 1×10 chain drivetrain. Magura four piston hydraulic discs. Bosch PowerPack 500 Wh with a second bay ready to fill. Suspension fork. Cockpit adjusts without tools from 4’11” to 6’7″.
Who buys this one
One or two kids, mostly pavement, mostly in town, mostly in decent weather. You would rather put the difference into a second battery and a serious lock than into electronics. If theft is the thing that keeps you up, read the S10 page instead, because alarm and tracking are Smart System features and this bike cannot have them at any price.
Ride one on Brook Street
We keep GSDs on the floor. Come try it loaded, with your kids in it, on a real hill. 181 Brook St, Providence.
Tern GSD (Gen 3) features
The Greener, Leaner Family Minivan
A more efficient alternative to the family minivan that’ll let you breeze past traffic jams and ditch the gas pump, the GSD comfortably carries up to 2 kids, from toddlers to teens, making school runs and shuffling from one activity to the next stress-free. It’ll even take an adult passenger, so you can keep the fun times rolling when it’s just you and your +1.
Fits your needs
Choose from our wide range of modular accessories for passengers, pets, and cargo to transform the GSD into your ideal vehicle for tackling big and small tasks. Whether it’s safely transporting kids in all sorts of weather, hauling gear to your next gig, or grabbing the obligatory pizza & 12 pack for game night, the GSD is made to fit your life and everything that comes with it.
Carries more than ever
Built on a stronger, stiffer frame with optimized geometry to handle its biggest payload capacity yet, the beefed up GSD proves that you can haul, well, just about anything with the right bike and a little ingenuity, especially when you’ve got a best-in-class max gross vehicle weight of 210 kg (463 lb) at your disposal.
Committed to your safety
The GSD passed rigorous stress testing by EFBE Prüftechnik GmbH, with forces scaled up to ensure the frame and fork can reliably handle its 210 kg (463 lb) weight rating as specified in the German DIN 79010 cargo bike safety standard. Plus, its entire Bosch® eBike system, including the motor, battery, and charger, is certified to UL 2849 to ensure fire safety.
