Why the P5i
The Tern HSD P5i is the value leader of the Gen 3 HSD lineup. Same rugged Gen 3 platform, same 419 lb capacity, same 5-second fold, at the lowest price in that generation.
What makes the HSD P5i different
Instead of a stepless hub, the P5i runs a Shimano Nexus 5 internally geared hub with a 263% gear range and a twist shifter. Five clean, distinct gears instead of Enviolo’s infinite-adjust feel. It’s simpler, lighter, and easier to service, and for most riders in a mostly-flat city like Providence, five well-spaced gears is plenty. Paired with a Bosch Performance Line motor (75 Nm, 340% assist) and the Bosch Smart System, you get eBike Lock, ride customization, and over-the-air updates through the compact Purion 200 display. A Gates Carbon Drive belt replaces the chain, so there’s no grease to deal with and nothing to rust. Just twist and go.
Same hauling capacity, lowest price in Gen 3
The HSD P5i carries the same 419 lbs max gross vehicle weight as every other bike in the HSD family, with 176 lbs on the rear rack alone. Magura hydraulic disc brakes and a Suntour suspension fork keep it composed when it’s loaded up with a kid, groceries, or both.
It folds just as flat and parks just as vertically as the rest of the lineup. Tuck it into a corner or closet, or roll it through a hallway or elevator without wrestling a full-size cargo bike through a doorway.
The P5i comes in Honey and Basalt. If you want the stepless Enviolo hub, step up to the HSD P00. If you want the current HSD at the lowest entry point, the Tern HSD P5i is it.
