Why the S11 (Gen 2)
The only HSD that goes 28 mph
Bosch Performance Sport on the Smart System, 75 Nm, 340% assist, Class 3. Nothing else in the HSD range assists past 20 mph. If your commute is long enough that speed is the thing you care about, this is the one bike in the family that answers it.
Shimano Deore 1×11 on a chain, with an 11 to 36 cassette. A wide range and a drivetrain any shop in the country can service.
The S11 or the P5i, at the same price
The HSD P5i is also $4,499. Same frame, same 545 Wh battery, same 397 lb capacity, same fold, same vertical park. It runs a sealed Nexus 5 hub on a Gates belt and tops out at 20 mph.
You are choosing between speed and never touching the drivetrain. We will not pretend one is the right answer. Ride both, they are on the floor.
What it does that a normal bike does not
Folds down small, and parks vertically against a wall on its back end. That is the reason people buy an HSD instead of a longtail. It carries a kid and a week of groceries and then it goes in a hallway.

Features
Stronger, Stiffer Frame
The HSD frame is now 15% stronger at the head tube and 39% at the bottom bracket. The enhanced stiffness means more stability under load, with less wobble or sway. A stiffer frame also means better handling, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces, while helping to absorb vibrations and bumps on the road.
Heavy-Duty Rack Design
With a capacity rated to 80 kg (176 lb), the versatile HSD Atlas H Rack makes it easier to ride more and drive less. The rack easily fits a child seat, and is strong and spacious enough to accommodate an adult-passenger or larger cargo. Take on bigger tasks, carry larger passengers, and set off on more adventures.
Cargo-Carrying Versatility
Carry up to 20 kg (44 lb) of extra cargo by installing one of the many compatible cargo-carrying accessories onto the burly, frame-mounted Combo Mount. Switch between bags, baskets, and racks. Carry more cargo up front when there is a passenger behind. All cargo weight is carried by the frame, without interfering with steering.
