Why the T11+

28 mph for four and a half

Bosch Performance Line Sport, 85 Nm, Smart System, assist to 28 mph, for $4,499.

You can get to 28 mph cheaper here. The Quick Haul P9 Performance is a Class 3 bike at $3,399. That is a 20 inch wheeled cargo bike with 65 Nm and a 400 Wh battery, built to haul rather than to cover ground. If what you want is a fast commuter you ride every day, this is where that starts.

What the $500 actually buys

Set this next to the Ultimate C380+ and the motor is the same, the 540 Wh battery is the same, the Suntour air fork is the same, the suspension seatpost is the same, the four piston Shimano brakes are the same and the frame is the same. The only difference is the drivetrain. The C380+ runs an Enviolo stepless hub on a Gates belt. This runs an 11-speed Shimano derailleur on a chain.

What you give up: the chain needs oil, the derailleur needs indexing once in a while, and it hangs off the back of the bike where a car rack can bend it. What you get: $500, a slightly simpler repair anywhere in the country, and eleven gears that are honestly fine.

We will not pretend the belt is not nicer. We will also not pretend it is worth $500 to everyone.
